Q. What’s the difference between a “casual user” and an Internet addict?

A. There are many different levels of Internet Usage Problems.

It becomes a problem when it adversely interferes with one's life. Often one is a 'problem user' when others are aware that there is some problem, but this type of person can have minimal insight into the total impact.

Internet Use becomes an issue when somebody uses the computer excessively despite awareness of associated negative consequences directly or indirectly related to its use.

There are usually many efforts that the addict has made to control, limit or eliminate its pervasiveness, and these are frequently unsuccessful. The outcomes can be devastating and are often accompanied by varying (and sometimes overwhelming) levels of denial that there is an issue at all. Serious relationship problems, job consequences, neglect of important issues, and even sleep disorders may ensue.
